"Teaching is a work of heart," in red and black on a small apple-shaped dish with a golden stem and an electroplated gold heart. The iridescent glaze catches the light and stops it looking like a classroom craft.

Tacks, paper clips, elastics, spare change, a ring while they wash their hands. End of term, teacher appreciation week, or a thank-you that is not another mug.

• 4" apple-shaped stoneware desk tray or keepsake dish
• Electroplated golden stem and heart detail
